Want to discover the Romanesque treasures of this region in a truly special way? Then join us on an unforgettable journey through one of the most remarkable artistic landscapes in the Alps!
Our starting point is the tourist office in Tramin. From there, we cycle along quiet roads and side paths to the most significant Romanesque churches between Tramin and Eppan – from the famous frescoes of St. Jakob in Kastelaz to the Byzantine influences of Hocheppan Castle.
You will be accompanied by our cycling guide Stefan Graziadei, with training in sacred art. At each stop, you will receive brief insights into the history and significance of the Romanesque artworks – engaging, well-founded and accessible to all.
Please note: Helmets are mandatory throughout the entire tour!
Romanesque Treasures in Tramin and the Oltradige Region
In the footsteps of medieval masters – art, landscape and history on two wheels

At Hocheppan Castle, the Romanesque castle chapel awaits us with its extraordinary Byzantine-inspired frescoes – a local chapel guide will bring the artworks to life on the spot.
The ascent to the castle (approx. 200 m elevation gain, partly asphalted forest path) is challenging even on an e-bike. Those who prefer can leave their bike at the bottom and enjoy the walk up on foot.
After lunch (not inclueded in the offer) with a panoramic view over the Adige Valley and the Dolomites, we cycle through Appiano towards Kaltern. Here a leisurely break (in the village or by the lake) invites you to unwind – the perfect conclusion to a truly memorable day. Then it’s back to Tramin.
Not included
Personal consumptions, such as during lunch at Hocheppan and the break in Kaltern. Also not included are entrance fees to St. Jakob in Kastelaz (€2) and the castle chapel at Hocheppan (€6 including guided tour) – visits are optional; those who prefer can enjoy the extraordinary views in the meantime.
