Ice Holes – Kaltern high-alpine trail

Highlight: Ice Holes the natural wonder – ice until May at 550 m of altitude.

Look forward to this special natural phenomenon. The Ice Holes are located in a basin about the size of a football pitch at 550 m of altitude amidst a forest. Here, you can admire vegetation, which is usually found at an altitude of 1500 metres, like Alpine rose, larch trees, cranberries and so on. Even in May you can notice icicles in small caves.

Past Lake Kaltern the tour continues to Eppan. There is a small, but steep ascent to the Ice Holes. Leave the bikes at the Biotope sign or even before and walk 2 minutes to the basin of the Ice Holes. For the return route take the Kaltern high-alpine path to Altenburg.
