G-GE-03 Adige Cycle Path – Bolzano – Cornaiano – Lake Kaltern

Loop tour through South Tyrol’s wine region and provincial capital

Tour description:

This scenic loop tour begins in the centre of Tramin and heads via Auer onto the well-developed Adige cycle path. The route is flat, paved and follows the river all the way to the outskirts of Bolzano. Optional: You can ride directly into the historic centre via bike lanes to explore Lauben Street, the fruit market, Walther Square or visit the Ötzi museum.

The return journey leads through Frangart, past Sigmundskron Castle with the Messner Mountain Museum. From there, the route climbs gently on the former Überetsch railway line, now a cycling path. Several parts of this section lead through illuminated tunnelsworking bike lights are therefore essential.

After a short descent you reach Lake Kaltern, an ideal spot for a break or a refreshing swim. From there, you roll back to Tramin through the vineyards.

Recommended equipment:

Touring bike, e-bike or gravel bike. A working bike light is recommended for riding through the tunnels along the old railway line. A helmet, sun protection and enough water are also recommended.
