Information for your South Tyrol holiday in Tramin

Anticipation is the greatest joy! This is also true for holidays… On this page, we have compiled some helpful information for your holiday in Tramin on the South Tyrolean Wine Route, so that you can plan well in advance and truly enjoy your South Tyrol holiday.

There’s always something going on in Tramin! Throughout the year, there are numerous events, from club festivals to musical and cultural highlights. Check out our events calendar here so you don’t miss a thing.

The public restroom is located on Mindelheimer Straße, near the Tourist Information Office. Look for the two green parking spaces by the electric vehicle charging station. The white door of the public restroom is open year-round.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the town hall square and in the public library of Tramin. Note: Since June 2017, roaming charges no longer apply within the EU.

Even though the sun shines over Tramin 300 days a year, you can check the current South Tyrol weather forecast here. During your vacation, you can also conveniently use the weather app, as roaming charges have been waived for citizens of EU countries since summer 2017.

Should it happen to rain, a leisurely stroll through the streets of Tramin, a visit to the Hoamet Museum, or a stop at one of the wineries is highly recommended.

Tramin has around 3,400 inhabitants (as of 2019), of whom more than 95% are native German speakers. A special feature is the spoken South Tyrolean dialect. Our dialect belongs to the Tyrolean dialects, and it also incorporates words from Italian.

Tramin boasts many excellent restaurants where you can enjoy traditional South Tyrolean, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisine paired with a good glass of wine. You can find an overview of Tramin’s restaurants here.

In the center of Tramin you will find many small shops: Tramin baked goods, wines and grappas, and other delicacies. Of course, Tramin also offers a fine selection of shops for everyday needs, as well as electronics and clothing. Here is a list of all the shops and tradespeople.

Tramin on the South Tyrolean Wine Route is surrounded by a ring of graceful bathing lakes that make the heart of every nature lover beat faster.

  • Lake Kaltern is only 3 kilometers from Tramin
  • The Montiggler Lakes can be reached by car in about 30 minutes
  • Lake Fennberg can be reached from Kurtatsch in about 30 minutes via a winding panoramic road

A new bike path to Lake Kaltern is currently under construction.

Bicycles and e-bikes can be rented locally in Tramin at the Bikehotel Traminerhof**** ,Buschenschank G’würzerkeller (only e-bikes) or at E-Bike Dreams.

The covered festival grounds in Tramin are located at Rechtentalstraße 1. On foot, you can reach the festival grounds from the town hall square via Hans-Feur-Straße, the main thoroughfare of the village.
By car, turn onto Dr. Josef-Noldin-Straße at the mini-golf course in Tramin; the festival grounds are located at the end of the street on the right.

The Gewürztraminer Express bus will take you from Mindelheimerplatz to the festival grounds, or further to Rechtenthal Castle, Restaurant Plattenhof, and the fire station in the Söll district. You can find the Gewürztraminer Express timetablee here.

Parking is available behind the festival grounds near the “Goose Squares” and on In der Au street. Blue-marked parking spaces are subject to a fee. White-marked parking spaces are free.

Tramin offers numerous hiking opportunities, as the municipality boasts a total elevation difference of 1,800 meters. From leisurely themed trails, such as the Tramin Nature Trail or the Geo Trail, to interesting hikes to Graun or the Gummererhof, and even summit tours up the local mountain, Roen, there’s something for everyone.

Tramin offers numerous cycling opportunities. From sunny valley cycle paths to adventurous mountain trails, Tramin has something for every cyclist.

The nearest train stations are in Neumarkt (small station, only local trains stop there, 5 km from Tramin, directions) and in Auer (larger station, 5.6 km from Tramin, international trains also stop there, directions).

Tramin has several bus stops for city buses that also serve the two train stations. You can board hourly at the Mindelheimerplatz stop (in the center) and at the Weinstraße stop (mini-golf course) and reach all the surrounding towns and villages (Kaltern, Eppan).

You can easily access the current timetables using the“südtirolmobil” app.

Tip: Tramin and its immediate surroundings also have special means of transport. Examples include the Mendelbahn funicular, the Ritten cable car, the Ritten railway, etc. Of course, you can also reach these by bus. A holiday without a car is therefore no problem.

Wild camping (whether in a tent or campervan) is generally prohibited in Trentino and South Tyrol.

There are no campsites in Tramin on the Wine Route.

At Lake Kaltern, more precisely in the district of St. Josef am See, there are three places for tents and the like.
In the St. Josef am See district there are two campsites (approx. 4-7 km from Tramin) – Camping Gretl am See and Camping St. Josef am See – and a pitch, partly with direct access to the beach, which is equally popular with windsurfers and sunbathers.

In the village of Kurtatsch, more precisely in the hamlet of Breitbach (approx. 5 km from Tramin), you’ll find the Camping Obstgarten campsite. It’s ideal as a stopover for cyclists, as it’s only 2 km from the Adige Cycle Path!
