From Buchholz to Gfrill

Guided hike through the forests of the Trudner Horn Nature Park

When the beech forests of the Trudner Horn Nature Park change colour in autumn, this landscape is particularly impressive. Our guided hike starts in sunny Buchholz and climbs steadily through forests and meadows to the mountain village of Gfrill.

From the starting point, we first head towards the Laukusbach gorge before continuing through the varied woodland landscape of the nature park. Most of the ascent is gradual, although a few sections require sure-footedness and good basic fitness. In wet autumn conditions, fallen leaves can make some passages slippery.

As we gain altitude, beautiful views of the surrounding landscape begin to open up. Eventually, we reach the open mountain village of Gfrill at around 1,330 metres above sea level. From here, sweeping views extend towards the Salurner Klause and across the southern part of South Tyrol.

At the end of the hike, there is an opportunity to stop at the Fichtenhof and enjoy South Tyrolean specialities. We then return to Buchholz by public bus. A rewarding autumn hike for anyone who loves peaceful forests, nature and wide-open views.

Getting there: by private car to Buchholz, around a 30-minute drive from Tramin. A limited number of seats may be available for participants depending on availability.

Return: by bus no. 127 from Gfrill to Buchholz at approximately 2:45 p.m., followed by the return journey to Tramin by car.

Refreshments: at the end of the hike, there is an opportunity to stop at the Fichtenhof in Gfrill.

Recommended equipment: sturdy hiking boots with good grip, trekking poles, rain and sun protection, headwear and sufficient water. Please also bring provisions and your Guest Pass or money for the bus journey.

For families: the hike is not suitable for strollers. A child carrier for children up to approx. 2 years may be available to borrow.
