This guided hike through Eppan combines landscape, history and architecture in a particularly rewarding experience. Along a pleasant circular route, you will discover numerous castles and historic residences, walk through vineyards and gain fascinating insights into the development of a region where the past is still clearly visible today.

The hike starts at the Rathausplatz in St. Michael | Eppan and leads through the characteristic cultural landscape of the Überetsch. Along the way, beautiful views open up towards St. Pauls | Eppan and the Schlern. Passing historic farmhouses, churches and manor houses, you will also learn how climatic changes, agriculture and economic prosperity influenced the remarkable architectural heritage of Eppan.

Highlights along the route include Schloss Freudenstein, Schloss Valentin, Schloss Englar and Schloss Gandegg. The main highlight, however, is Schloss Moos-Schulthaus. During an expert-guided visit, you will gain a rare insight into medieval residential culture and the historic world of Eppan’s castles. Original interiors, historic furnishings and vivid stories make the past feel surprisingly close.

This guided cultural hike is ideal for anyone who wants to discover Eppan not only for its scenery, but also for its rich history. It is a varied combination of walking, architecture and local culture that is also well suited to families.

Getting there: by private car to St. Michael | Eppan or by bus no. 130/131 to Bahnhof St. Michael.

Refreshments: several places to stop for food and drinks are available near the start and finish. However, you should bring a packed lunch for the planned break before the castle tour.

Visit to Schloss Moos-Schulthaus: admission €10. Arrival at the castle is planned for around 12:45 p.m., with the guided visit expected to begin at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Recommended equipment: sturdy sneakers or comfortable hiking shoes, a filled water bottle and protection against cold and rain.
