The Lake Colle

A picture-perfect forest lake – pristine, tranquil, and refreshing

Just 20 km from Tramin, near the small village of Aldein, at 1,100 m above sea level, lies a true insider tip for hot summer days: Lake Göllersee. Nestled in a fragrant pine and spruce forest, surrounded by blueberries, birdsong, and dragonflies, the small bathing lake feels almost like an enchanted place – tranquil, pristine, and far from everyday life.

Hiking, swimming, and recharging – in the heart of nature

The hike starts at a relaxed pace at the fire station in Aldein. From there, a well-marked forest path (No. 17b) leads directly to the lake in about 30 minutes. The trail is easy to navigate and also ideal for families with children. Those arriving by car from Tramin can reach Aldein via Montan in about 35–40 minutes.

Once you arrive at the lake, an idyllic spot awaits you to unwind, have a picnic, or simply enjoy the scenery. At approximately 180 meters long and 50 meters wide, Lake Göllersee may be small, but it’s all the more charming. Despite its olive-green color, the water is clean—and pleasantly cool. Ideal for a quick dip after a hike.

From May to September, dogs are not allowed in the water.

For the curious and long-distance hikers

Those who still feel like getting more exercise after swimming will find numerous viewpoints and hiking trails in the surrounding area. For example, the Rotwand and Burgstallegg panoramic points are very close by, offering magnificent views across the South Tyrolean lowlands to the peaks of the Ortler Alps and the Brenta Group.

A special destination for those interested in spirituality is Maria Weißenstein, South Tyrol’s most important pilgrimage site – just a few kilometers away, nestled in a peaceful mountain landscape.
