St. Joseph’s Church

In the hamlet of Rungg

Located along the old path from Tramin to Kurtatsch, in the idyllic hamlet of Rungg, stands the Church of St. Joseph – a quiet place of faith and history. The north–facing church was built in 1901 in neo-Romanesque style, based on plans by Bolzano architect Ferdinand Mungenast and with strong support from the local population. Its design is characterized by a clear and simple architectural language.

A true highlight is the altar, crafted in 1902 by the renowned Val Gardena artist Stuflesser. It features statues of St. Joseph with the Child Jesus, flanked by Saints Francis de Sales and Teresa of Ávila.
The church tower, with its striking red-tiled pointed spire visible from afar, was added in 1908. Inside, visitors will find a vaulted crossing with a polygonal choir – an architectural feature that adds a special charm to the small church.
