The egetmann parade

Tramin is home to one of Tyrol’s most unusual and oldest Carnival traditions, documented as far back as 1591:

The Egetmann Parade. In odd-numbered years, this unique procession makes its way through the streets of Tramin on Shrove Tuesday, attracting thousands of spectators from near and far. At the heart of the event is Egetmannhansl, a figure dressed in a black coat, top hat and white gloves, who symbolically celebrates his wedding.

The Egetmann carriage is accompanied by numerous floats, groups and traditional characters, including the Schnappviecher, the rich and poor Gypsies, the Bauerwirtschaft, the fishermen, the Alt-Weibermühle, the figures Mann im Korb and Frau mit Zumm, the Wild Man, the Green and White Bear, the washerwomen, as well as the Burgelen and Burgltreiber.

The traditional Egetmann Parade takes place only every two years. In even-numbered years, the youngest members of the village community take centre stage with the Children’s Egetmann Parade. A special event that offers an authentic insight into one of Tramin’s most distinctive and deeply rooted traditions.
