Roen – Tramin’s panoramic mountain

One of the most spectacular viewpoints in South Tyrol

At 2,116 metres above sea level, Mount Roen rises above Tramin and is one of the most popular hiking destinations along the South Tyrolean Wine Road. From its summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views stretching from the Dolomites to the Brenta Group, from the Adamello massif to the Ortler region and the highest peaks of the Alps.

From the Adige Valley floor, Roen does not immediately appear as a prominent peak. Once you reach the summit, however, you are greeted by one of the widest and most impressive panoramic views in South Tyrol and Trentino. This unique combination of nature, accessibility and stunning scenery makes Roen a favourite destination for hikers and mountain lovers.

Roen is the highest peak of the Mendola Range and forms a natural border between South Tyrol’s Lowlands and the Non Valley. On the Tramin side, the mountain is characterised by steep forested slopes and rocky cliffs, while the Trentino side opens into gentle alpine meadows and rolling pastures.

Hiking on Mount Roen above Tramin

The summit of Roen can be reached via several hiking routes. Experienced hikers may start directly from Tramin, while those looking for a shorter hike can reach the Mendola Pass by car or by the historic Mendola Funicular and continue on foot to the summit.

The trails are well marked and generally easy to follow. Only the final section before the summit becomes narrower and requires a sure footing. Along the way, mountain huts and alpine inns offer refreshments and beautiful views of the South Tyrolean Lowlands, Lake Caldaro and the surrounding mountains.
