Discovering cultural heritage: dry-stone walls and the rectory in Söll

On Sunday, 27 September 2026, European Heritage Day invites visitors to discover special cultural sites and fascinating examples of the rural cultural landscape at close quarters.

In 2026, the focus in South Tyrol is on 26 rural architecture and cultural landscape projects funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Restored and enhanced cultural heritage sites, some of which are normally not or only partially accessible to the public, will open their doors on this special day. Guided tours provide insights into their history and restoration and highlight the importance of preserving this heritage for future generations.

Tramin is taking part with two special projects: two free guided tours offer the opportunity to discover the historic dry-stone walls among Tramin’s vineyards and visit the restored rectory in Söll.

10.00 am | Dry-stone walls in Tramin

For centuries, dry-stone walls have been a characteristic feature of the terraced vineyards around Tramin. Built from natural stone without mortar, they not only shape the cultural landscape but also provide valuable habitats for numerous plant and animal species.

During a guided walk, participants will learn more about the construction techniques and biodiversity associated with these traditional walls. The route follows both new and historic sections of dry-stone wall as far as Kastelaz hill.

2.00 pm | The restored rectory in Söll

In the afternoon, the rectory in Söll opens its doors. The historic building has undergone extensive renovation, with its living spaces carefully enhanced.

During the guided tour, visitors can explore the restored building and learn more about its history and the work carried out to preserve it.

An exhibition featuring works by Max Sparer, who was born in Söll, complements the tour and connects the history of the building with another aspect of Tramin’s cultural heritage.
