Hocheppan Burg

Three Castles Walk in Appiano

Experience history among vineyards, ruins, and Romanesque frescoes

Discover the famous castle landscape of Eppan in a unique way: On this extended version of the well-known castle tour, a Hocheppan castle guide will accompany you and tell you about the fascinating history of the High Middle Ages.

Following in the footsteps of Count Ulrich von Eppan, you will immerse yourself in times gone by and experience Central European history up close.

Route & Highlights:
From the parking lot at Korb Castle, we begin our hike through picturesque vineyard landscapes to the small church of St. Justina. Along the way, we will discover some of the most beautiful historic residences in the region.

We continue across the dry grassland biotope of Kreuzstein and through pleasantly shady forest paths to the Boymont ruins – where you will find our first opportunity for refreshments. Afterwards, a spectacular but easily accessible connecting trail leads us up to Hocheppan Castle.

There, an exciting guided tour of the castle and a visit to the famous Byzantine-Romanesque frescoes in the chapel await you. The return journey takes you along the castle’s main path back to the starting point.
