Celebrating with sound – a celebration for our bell

Weighing 870 kg, 1.10 m in diameter, cast in 1513 in the former bell foundry workshop in Tramin… these are the key data of the large church tower bell of St. Jakob.

A crack in the bell made the picturesque district quiet: at 6 a.m., at lunchtime and at the end of the day, only the small bell rang.

A few weeks ago, the large, broken bell was hoisted out of the tower by crane and taken to the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck, where it will now undergo extensive repairs at considerable expense.

A group of enthusiastic residents of St. Jakob has made it their mission to support this project and is holding a “Bell Festival” in the streets around the church on Sunday, May 18, with all proceeds going towards bell repairs.
