History & Events
When we speak of history and culture, we do not associate it with something old-fashioned or even a dusty atmosphere. Of course, you always can see the time-honoured traditions, for example the Tramin Village Museum which was opened in 1989. However, without a stuffy atmosphere or pompous demands.
Everything is lively. And full of fun. The "Egetmann" parade at the carnival, for example. The parade with a broad variety of carriages and historic figures originates from an old tradition in which winter was driven out of the land. The so-called "Schnappviecher" are a fundamental part of this event and inseparable from Tramin.
No less history-ridden are Tramin's cultural monuments. A special gem is the little church St. Jakob in Kastelaz. Unobtrusive but still visible from afar, it thrones on a small hill, covered in vineyards, situated just above the village. Inside, it contains the oldest Roman frescoes in the German-speaking area.
